Meet Attorney Jessalyn Barrett
I graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, where I graduated summa cum laude and began my career as a paralegal working in personal injury law firms in the Atlanta area. I worked for six years managing cases involving motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, and negligent security. While I oversaw these cases, I handled everything from pre-litigation negotiations and trial preparation to assisting at trial. As I was working as a paralegal, I attended Georgia State University College of Law’s part-time program, graduating in 2019 with the honor of cum laude.
After graduation, I began my legal career prosecuting felonies as an Assistant District Attorney in the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit. During my time at the District Attorney’s Office, I conducted multiple jury trials obtaining verdicts in favor of the State. In addition to trials, I was also responsible for the appeals process including hearings on motions for new trial and drafting briefs for the Georgia Court of Appeals. All my cases that went before the Court of Appeals won – based on briefs alone. In my relatively short time with the District Attorney's Office, one of my Georgia Court of Appeals cases became a published opinion by the Court, Pattarozzi v. State, 358 Ga. App. 675 (2021).
In addition to my responsibilities as an Assistant District Attorney, I was also assigned temporarily to the circuit’s Drug Court and Mental Health Court, eventually being assigned permanently to the Mental Health Court as the District Attorney’s representative. While working with these accountability courts I watched individuals succeed in the program while accomplishing short-term and long-term goals that they didn’t think were possible. It was a personally rewarding experience to watch them succeed.
One of my goals in creating Barrett Law, LLC is to achieve the best outcome for my clients by using the knowledge, experience, and skills I have obtained through the years. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I will find the answer; I will give accurate and truthful information, even if it’s not always what my client wants to hear; and I believe honesty is the best policy. I am passionate about the law and believe that the courtroom should be a truth-seeking arena; I will seek the truth for all my clients.
When not working, I enjoy traveling with my family, beach days, and cooking.
I look forward to working with you as we navigate the road to justice together.
